Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been revealed to be involved in a bike racing team, which competes in the support series of the World Superbike Championship.
Named MSD R-N Racing Team India, the outfit made its SuperSport debut in the 10th round of the season at Brno, Czech Republic missing most of the 17-race calendar.
Frenchman Florian Marino finished 13th in the race, 19th in the following outing at Silverstone and registered a 14th place in Moscow.
The Yeovil-based team, which also fields British rider Dan Linfoot, is expected to compete in the full season next year with an aim to grow the sport in Asia.
"We are looking at it from the long term perspective. The sport itself is in a pretty nascent stage in Asia so this is a first step," team principal Amit Sandill said at the launch in July.
"Trying to get to the championship and making a kind of mark in the championship and then take the sport to India and then other countries in Asia. We would also like to start a Racing Academy. Behind all this is the passion, which comes as a bonus," he added.
Dhoni, a bike enthusiast, is reported to be a part of the management while actor Nagarjuna is listed as a director.
