Alonso still remains the dark horse

Featuring largely at the back of the grid, Narain Karthikeyan has been a keen observer of the battle among the frontrunners, placing his bet on Fernando Alonso for the title this season.

The Indian reckons that the Ferrari driver has maximised his performance this season suggesting that the championship battle could go down to the wire against McLaren, which dominated the last three Grands Prix.

“Alonso is pulling out something much more than what that Ferrari is capable of irrespective of the anything. Whether is wet or dry or whatever, he is still doing a tremendous job,” Karthikeyan was quoted saying by IANS.

“He is thinking a lot about it. In races where he knows he can’t win he is taking away huge chunks of points from his rivals. He is 37 points ahead of his closest rival Lewis (Hamilton) and it will be hard to stop him,” the HRT driver pointed out.

“But the McLarens are also looking very strong. They have had a fast car throughout the calendar and the tracks in the next races will suit the McLarens more than the Ferrari and with Red Bull in the mix the season will have an interesting ending. However, Alonso still remains the dark horse,” he added.
