Lewis Hamilton’s recent rendezvous with Muhammad Ali has left the McLaren driver in awe of the boxing legend and hopes to emulate the American in his own discipline.

The Briton met the 70-year-old at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum late in July where the former heavyweight champion was honoured in the run up to the Olympic Games.

“It was absolutely amazing, as he definitely is the greatest boxer of all times,” Hamilton told the official Formula 1 website. “I have a lot of books and videos about him, so he is a real icon for me even though he is not really my generation.

“The legacy that he has created will go on for many years and that is just phenomenal,” he pointed out. “I can only wish that in years to come, someone would say something even close to that about me. That is still a big dream.”
