Williams’ non-executive director Toto Wolff has stepped up his role within the company with immediate effect, the British team announced on Tuesday.

The Austrian has been appointed as the executive director of the organisation and will be responsible in assisting and supporting team principal Frank Williams in his new position.

“Toto’s new role, working closely alongside myself, is about Williams looking forward and managing the successful running of the company,” the 70-year-old Williams said. “I am looking forward to our new working relationship and I have every belief that this partnership will help take Williams F1 from strength to strength.”

The 40-year-old Wolff, a former Formula Ford and GT driver, has been a shareholder in the business since the end of 2009 and is the husband of Williams’ development driver Susie Wolff (nee Stoddart).
