Scoring points on a regular basis throughout the season is the prime target that Sauber has set itself for 2012.
The Swiss team will be striving to make the most of its car this year, the progress of which pleased its drivers during the pre-season tests, and aims to significantly improve its position in the constructors’ championship.
“The main target is that we are more consistent this year,” said Kamui Kobayashi. “In 2010 we had a difficult first part of the season, and only recovered in the second half.
“In 2011 it was vice versa - we had a great start but struggled later in the season. If we can consistently display our best potential, we could score consistently. It must be like this,” he insisted.
Sauber finished seventh in the standings last year, an improvement of one place over the preceding year, but this is clearly not enough.
“We have set ourselves quite high targets for 2012,” said team principal Peter Sauber. “We want to score points on a regular basis and significantly improve our position in the constructors’ championship. We are well aware that this sounds very ambitious, but this is what we are working on.”
