Rob White heads up the engine operations of Renault Sport F1 at its headquarters in Viry-Chatillon, France. White arrived in Viry in 2004 and has managed the engine team’s technical activities since that time.
White brings extensive experience to Renault, with over 20 years of working with engine manufacturers. After graduating from university, during which time he was sponsored by Jaguar, he joined high performance engine supplier Cosworth as a graduate trainee. He spent over 16 years there, briefly working on production engines before going racing.
His many achievements include the Indy project that saw the manufacturer win the famous Indianapolis 500 in 1995 with Jacques Villeneuve. In 1997 he then joined Cosworth’s F1 programme as chief engineer before joining the Renault F1 Team in 2004 as technical director (engine).
In 2005 he stepped up to become deputy managing director (engine), thereby overseeing Renault’s most successful period, with back to back championship wins in the V10 and V8 eras in 2005 and 2006. His most recent success is however, of course, the double wins of the driver and constructors’ championships with Red Bull.
