He’s now old, wrinkly and your dad may still have an old cassette of his songs that he plays on a rainy day with a glass of strong scotch.
Pop/Rock singing icon Cliff Richard has been around since the days of Elvis Presley and was topping the charts when the Beatles were conceptualizing lyrics for their first albums.
A singer with a husky voice and acoustic melodies, Richard has been a self-proclaimed Formula One fan since the early days and has now made it a habit of attending the Monaco Grand Prix every year.
At the 2008 Monaco Grand Prix, Richard was present, as always, to extend his support to Polish driver, Robert Kubica. His presence worked like a charm and Kubica finished second in that race and considered it a privilege to be congratulated by the evergreen singer.
Having a flair for spontaneity, Richard offered to sing when it started to rain at Monaco but was abruptly reminded that even his loud, husky voice would prove no match for 20 V8 engines zooming by. Although he is a regular at the world-famous Monaco Grand Prix every year, he has expressed interest in attending the night-race at Singapore for the 2009 season.
His father was an Indian train driver who was subsequently posted to England after India overthrew the British rule. After singing for many groups during his formative years, Cliff Richard struck luck as a solo artist.
Despite being a singer par excellence and a devoted F1 fan, Richards has also dabbled in theatre, movies, song contests and management.

The English rock singer, to this day, is the only singer (other than Elvis) to have top singles in each of the decades from 1950 to 2000.
At an earlier 1996 Wimbledon match, Richard entertained the crowds that were forced to wait owing to a rain-delay, by singing to them.
A little known fact about Richard is that he was actually born in Lucknow, India, to Anglo-Indian parents, seven years before India achieved independence.
He was knighted on October 25, 2005 for his accomplishments and today stands as one of the highest selling artists in the world.
