It served as the circuit for the South African Grand Prix in 1934, 1936 and 1939 prior to the World War. |  During the war years, German manufacturers tested different types of type compounds for vehicles, of which Audi were the prominent ones on this circuit.  |  It hosted just three official F1 races in 1962, 1963 and 1965 of which Jim Clark won the latter two in his Lotus-Climax.  |  Although he started on pole position in 1962, Jim Clark lost the race to Graham Hill.  |  However it was deemed too small for F1 cars and the race was eventually moved to Kyalami.
