Intertwined around the ancient and the modern divide in the city of Baku, the latest anti-clockwise circuit to grace the Formula One calendar will provide a backdrop to relish. Originally slated to emerge in 2015, myriad delays slotted Azerbaijan's inaugural race in the 2016 F1 calendar under the European Grand Prix banner. The circuit was reportedly pushed for by former Renault team principal Flavio Briatore. Baku may by new to F1 but not motorsport as the city has hosted the FIA's GT/Blancpain Sprint Series. Shedding its European GP tag, the Grand Prix is now ready to host F1 under the Azerbaijan Grand Prix banner starting 2017.
